About Car-Rey Soccer Academy

Carlos Reyes

CAR-REY Pro Soccer Academy Director, Carlos Reyes and daughter Nicole Patricia. Top Right, Edwin Reyes (7), Coach Reyes, Nicole Patricia and Michael Reyes (10). Bottom right, Edwin Reyes (7), Coach Reyes's wife, Claudia, Nicole Patricia and Michael Reyes (10)

Carlos Reyes has gotten a kick out of soccer balls all his life, playing soccer as soon he started walking, playing at High school (Tecnico Industrial de Facatativa, Cundinamarca) Varsity Level at age of 11 years old, playing Division 1 at the Metropolitan League in Bogota, Colombia, playing State Champions Cup at the Campincito"(Capitol's auxiliar Stadium in Bogota), when he moved to United States, played Divison 1 at the New York Hispanic Capital league.

Reyes and his family (Wife Claudia, daughters Diana and Andrea and the twin sons Michael and Edwin) came to Hagerstown in 1992, from Rocky Hill, Connecticut. He started coaching soccer for the Hagerstown Soccer Club, U-10 Boys "Cosmos" team on 1995.

While coaching he realized the closest store for good soccer supplies was in Winchester, VA., or Rockville, MD. Many people would order their supplies through catalogs because there wasn't any good local supplier.

So he and his wife opened the CAR-REY Pro Soccer Store at the point of Potomac Street in addition to the soccer clinics he began in October 1995. Reyes planned to have the store for a good long time, but at the time the Prime Outlets stores were opened in 1998, things changed and business wasn't any good. It was very hard to compete with World wide stores like Nike, Adidas and Rebook, so the store finally closed down on September 1999, after trying the hardest, borrowing money from banks, friends and relatives to not let that happen.

After the store was closed, Reyes started giving Group soccer clinics and offering Individual "One-on-One" soccer training. At this time, six of his students made the Maryland and West Virginia state ODP teams (Olympic Development Program), which honors the best players in the state and about 4 of his trainees got scholarships to College.
